20th Century Fox Is Bringing Sesame Street Back to the Big Screen

Written by Alexander Tucker   // 06/20/2012

Sesame StreetWith The success of The Muppets, you had to see this coming. Sesame Street is coming to the big screen.

The long-running US children’s TV series that brought the world Big Bird, Bert and Ernie and Oscar the Grouch will make its third foray into multiplexes following 1985′s Follow That Bird and 1999′s The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland.

20th Century Fox has nabbed the movie rights to the children’s favorite. The studio is also vying for seasoned “Street” scribe, Joey Mazzarino, to write the script with Shawn Levy (“Night at the Museum”), Michael Aguilar, Mark Gordon and Guymon Casady producing.

We’ll be hoping that Bert and Ernie get plenty of screen time, alongside Oscar the Grouch, Elmo, and of course, the Cookie Monster and Big Bird.

No word as yet on when we can expect the film to arrive, or what if any live actors will sign onto the project.
