3 New Clip From Anna Karenina -- Starring Keira Knightly, Aaron Johnson and Jude Law

Anna Karenina is undoubtably one of the greatest love stories ever written. Leo Tolstoy wrote the novel back in 1877 and it’s 864 pages long. It was different in those days however. They didn’t have television, duh, and so writers would release chapters of their books in serial installments. Men and woman would line up every week or month to get their hands on the next episode sort of speak.

Well, now Anna Karenina is a film. Actually it’s been a film five times over. I won’t bore you with all five films, I’ll just mention the latest Anna Karenina made in 1997. That version starred Sean Bean, Alfred Molina and Sophie Marceau. It had a limited release in the states, but crashed and burned.

The latest version of Anna Karenina is much more promising. Joe Wright’s Anna Karenina stars Keira Knightley, Aaron Johnson and Jude Law. It tells the same story of course, but with Joe Wright behind the camera.

This man has a brilliant eye for period piece film. He directed Keira Knightley twice before in Pride and Prejudice and Atonement.  Both films showed traces of cinematic mastery. Even The Soloist, the film with Robert Downey Jr. which boomed, had some great sequences. So, I expect this film to be magical.

The story unfolds in its original late 19th century Russian high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends and community.

Three new Anna Karenina clips were released today. They give us a glimpse of what we can expect from the film, a wonderland of love — I hope I’m not over stating it. You see, I’m an avid reader and this story gets me every time. Forbidden love! Isn’t it just the best?
