39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Winners

Written by Alexander Tucker   // 06/24/2012

Daytime EmmyThe 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards Ceremony was held on June 23, 2012, and General Hospital was clearly the big winner of the evening. General Hospital not only won for “Outstanding Drama Series,” but the actors of the show also won big.

Anthony Geary (Luke Spencer on General Hospital) won his seventh Daytime Emmy Award, a new record in Daytime Emmy statistics. He clearly deserved this award as he has been a rock on General Hospital since the 1970s.

Jonathan Jackson plays the role of Lucky Spencer, Luke Spencer’s son. Perhaps some of Anthony’s acting skills rubbed off on Jonathan who won the Daytime Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Jonathan will be on ABC’s highly anticipated drama series, Nashville, this Fall. He will be playing the role of Avery, an aspiring musician and songwriter with a bad reputation.Daytime Emmy

Heather Tom took home the Daytime Emmy for Lead Actress in a Drama Series. She is the only actress to have taken home the Lead Actress Award after winning Daytime Emmys for Younger Actress and Supporting Actress in the past.

Nancy Lee Grahn won her first gold since 1989 for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role of Alexis Davis on General Hospital.

Regis Philbin received the proper retirement farewell with a Daytime Emmy for Best Entertainment Talk Show for “Live with Regis and Kelly.” The new co-host of this show is yet to be named.

A new category of Daytime Emmy Awards was added called “AOL Viral Video.” We almost didn’t find out the winner of this award when Bethenny Frankel’s video prompter went completely blank. But we soon found it the award went to the Fine Brothers for Kids React. The brothers make videos of children reacting to various viral videos, such as “Leave Britney Alone.” The brothers ask hilarious questions of the children and record their responses.

There were some pretty humorous moments at the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, namely a giant alligator that Jack Hanna brought out on the stage that terrified just about everyone. When Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo, was not available to pick up his Daytime Emmy the alligator started to bite it.
