Here is an exclusive Clip from Alex Kurtzman’s ‘People Like Us.’
The film the tells the story of a struggling man (Chris Pine) who, after flying home to L.A. for the funeral of his estranged record-producer father, discovers that the will stipulates that he must deliver $150,000 in cash to a 30-year-old alcoholic sister (Elizabeth Banks) he never knew existed, and her troubled 12-year-old son.
The film is said to be based on a true story, but I’m not sure. Regardless, this is obviously a film from the heart. The writer director Alex Kurtzman is known for his action screenplay writing, and yet he choose to make this film his directorail debut. An interesting choose from a guy who wrote Mission Impossible 3, Star Trek, Cowboys and Aliens, and Transformers. The Story of ‘People Like Us‘ must have hit home for him in someway.
The film has gotten modest buzz. I think people are still feeling out Chris Pine. I think the public likes him, but we’re all wondering if he will be a true leading man or a five year flash in the pan. With two more Star Treks coming up I would guess the former. But he still needs to prove he can carry a film to Box Office gold without the name Captain Kirk tied to his back.
Another interesting note about this film, is its composer, Academy Awards winner A.R. Rahman. This guy makes really interesting music. He’s Indian and did the great soundtracks to Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours, among 127 other films, oddly enough.
Also starring in the film are Olivia Wilde, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mark Duplass and Jon Favreau. Favreau plays Sam’s (Chris Pine) dickhead of a boss and he is the one featured in the new clip below along with it’s star Chris Pine.
