Amanda Plummer

Amanda PlummerBREAKING NEWS UPDATE: After what’s seemed like months of run-arounds and rumors and shortlists and wishful thinking, we finally have what looks like a frontrunner to play Finnick inThe Hunger Games: Catching Fire…. and it’s probably not who you’re hoping. Not to say anything against Sam Claflin, who Variety reports is the choice to play Finnick in the sequel, but you probably don’t know who he is, even if you caught his performances as very similarly handsome young men in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and this year’s Snow White and the Huntsman. Claflin has the good-looking side of Finnick nailed, but as for the unbridled charisma and sexual appeal… well, if it’s there, he hasn’t managed to show it onscreen just yet.

I think this is a fantastic choice./ The kid can act and he is not a household name and he will bring some mystery to the part.

Luckily there are two more actors you’re guaranteed to recognize who also may get on board– Melissa Leo is reportedly the frontrunner to play Finnick’s former mentor Mags, while Tony Shalhoub could play Beetee, the electrically-ingenious former tribute who is paired up with Wiress, the character Amanda Plummer signed on to play just hours ago.

EARLIER TODAY: Tony Award and Emmy-winning American actress, Amanda Plummer, best known for her work role in Pulp Fiction has been cast as Wiress in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.’ The New Yorker stress signed on to play the Wiress today after much consideration.

Wiress was a female tribute from District 3. She competed in andwon a previous, unspecified Hunger Games, (possibly the 56 to the 59th), and then participated again in the 75th Hunger Games. She has been described as shy by Katniss, who mentions that in the training room, she seldom completed her sentences, and Beetee had to finish them for her. When she, along with Johanna and Beetee, team up with Finnick, Katniss, and Peeta, she could only recite comments and songs about clocks – referring to the clock shaped arena. Beetee said that Wiress was not only smart, but intuitive. She was an intellectual genius, inventive, and clever. In Catching Fire, Wiress and Beetee are both described as having ashen skin and black hair.

I think its another fine piece of casting. Amanda Plummer has alway been good at playing crazy

‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever. ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ will be directed by Francis Lawrence, and produced by Nina Jacobson’s Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. The novel on which the film is based is the second in a trilogy that has over 36 million copies in print in the US alone. Lionsgate will release ’The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ on November 22th, 2013.  The third chapter in the “The Hunger Games” trilogy is to be split into two films. ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1′ will be released November 21th, 2014 with ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2′ following on November 20th, 2015.
