B.J. Novak Joins The Cast of Saving Mr. Banks

B.J. NovakOne of the most fascinating film developments of my young blogging career is Saving Mr. Banks, the upcoming biopic about P.L. Travers, the author of Mary Poppins. It’s the first large scale dramatized inside look at Disney and its golden era.

The script for the film shifts back and forth between 1961 and 1907 and covers Travers’ childhood in rural Queensland and her experience negotiating with Walt Disney  and his team to make the film out of her book Mary Poppins.

Already on board are Tom Hanks as Walt Disney, Emma Thompson as Travers, along with Paul Giamatti, Jason Schwartzman, Ruth Wilson, and Colin Farrell. The latest to join the bustling cast is Inglorious Basterds, and Office Star B.J. Novak.

Novak will play songwriter Robert Sherman, one of the most accomplished songwriters for the Disney brand. Along with his brother Richard Morton Sherman (portrayed by Schwartzman) Richard wrote the movie’s memorable songs including the Oscar-winning ‘Chim Chim Cheer-ee’ and ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’.

This is one, I’m really looking forward to.
