Benedict Cumberbatch Join The Cast of August: Osage CountyTHR Reports that Benedict Cumberbatch is joining Chris Cooper, Julia Roberts, and Meryl Streep in John Well’s, ‘August: Osage County.’ Cumberbatch has been on the fast track to stardom.

His career started out slow. Then in 2004, he gained acclaim for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in BBC’s ‘Hawking.’ From there, he’s steadily moved up the star ladder. Making appearances in Amazing Grace, The Last Enemy, Atonement, Small Islands, and became a house hold name in The UK for playing the modern day Sherlock Holmes in Sherlock. That lead to Spielberg’s War Horse, The Hobbit, and  JJ Abrams new Star Trek movie. Let’s just say, he gets to choose his parts now, they aren’t chosen for him.

In ‘Osage County’ Benedict Cumberbatch will play Charles, a sensitive, emotionally damaged son of Mattie Fae Aiken (Margo Martindale) and Charlie Aiken (Chris Cooper). He’s often mistreated by his mother, but receives more sympathy and understanding from Charlie — who, against the man’s own knowledge, isn’t even his father. Charles is also in a romantic bind with his first cousin, Ivy, creating the necessity to keep his affairs secret. That doesn’t hold together.

The film also co-stars Juliette Lewis and Abigail Breslin. George Clooney and Grant Heslov are producing for The Weinstein Company, August: Osage County will hit in fall 2013.
