BOX OFFICE RETURNS: “Hotel Transylvania” Has The Early Lead, “Looper” A Strong Second

Written by Alexander Tucker   // 09/29/2012

Box Office Returns September 28-30,

Welcome back to the top of the Box Office heap Adam Sandler. Hotel Transylvania was Friday’s runaway winner, with Looper hardly nipping at it’s heels, but respectable nonetheless.

Sony pictures Hotel Transylvania voiced by  Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, Jon Lovitz, Cee Lo Green, Molly Shannon and David Spade, had a nice night, pulling in $11 million dollars on Friday. The film is projecting a $38.2 million dollar weekend. Not bad, not great, but again not bad for  Sony Pictures Animation. Look, this isn’t Pixar, but that’s the film only cost $85 million to make, and not $200 million dollars to make. Look for this film to turn a nice profit.

Rain Johnson’s Looper finished a healthy second. The science fiction action film starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, and Bruce Willis made $7 million dollars on its opening day. The film is projecting a $19.7 million dollar weekend. It’s by far filmmaker Rain Johnson’s biggest opening yet. Brick, his breakout noir also staring Joseph Gordon-Levitt pulled in $2 million, and The Brothers Bloom, which flopped, brought in $3.5 million over its first weekend.

Rounding out the top five was Amy Adams and Clint Eastwood’s Trouble with the Curve and Jennifer Lawrence second week horror film The House at the End of the Street. Meanwhile, End of Watch which won last weeks Box Office fell to 5th place, which had to disappoint Open Road.
