Parks and Recreation: Casts Jonathan Banks in Season 5
According to TVLine’s Kimberly Roots, Jonathan Banks will be guest-starring in season 5 of Parks and Recreation as Ben’s father. Here’s an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Banks’ role as well as the casting of Ben’s mother:
Parks co-creator Michael Schur tells the site that Banks’ Parks and Rec character, like his Albuquerque alter ego, is less-than-cuddly. And that may be because the sitcom’s writers, according to Schur, are huge fans of the actor’s Bad work.
If Ben’s dad is anything like Mike, he won’t have much use for his son’s significant other – admit it, Leslie and Breaking Bad’s Lydia have a lot in common. But on the other hand, if Ms. Knope’s new nemesis turns into a real nuisance, it might be nice to have someone Ehrmantraut-esque around, no?
Someone who will hit it off with Leslie is Ben’s mom Julia, played by Glenne Headly (ER, Grey’s Anatomy), TVGuide.com reports. But she won’t be too excited to run into Banks’ Steve, who arrives with a younger woman in tow.
My thoughts: I’m not familiar with Jonathan Banks as an actor, so I can’t comment on his acting, but I’m really looking forward to seeing episode 5×06 “Ben’s Parents”. Ben has been one of my favorite characters on the show ever since he was first introduced. Ben is a great character, and I’ve always been very interested by his past, so I’m beyond excited that the writers are going to be introducing Ben’s parents. Parks and Recreation is an extremely funny and incredibly underrated show, and I’m very confident that the episode will be beyond hilarious.
