The PaperboyHere’s the first Trailer From Lee Daniels ‘The Paperboy.’ The Millennium film starring Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman, Matthew McConaughey, John Cusack, Macy Gray and David Oyelowo. It’s based on Pete Dexter’s 1995 novel of the same name.

The film shocked at Cannes and was ridiculed. Many trashed it, and the tabloids went crazy for it because one scene featured Nicole Kidman urinating on Zac Efron. In another scene Kidman is masterbating in prison, plus John Cusack plays a weirdo.

However, not everyone was down on the film. The Film Stage points out that  “this bewildering, cinematic beast will find a small, devoted audience in due time” with all all the trappings of a cult classic.” So, there you go. Not everything Cannes pans ends up being a bad film in my eyes.

In ‘The Paperboy,’ Lee Daniels (Precious) directs the adapted from Peter Dexter’s novel of the same name which follows Ward James (Matthew McConaughey), a Miami Times reporter who returns to his hometown to investigate the murder of a local sheriff who is eventually helped by his younger brother Jack (Zac Efron) as they investigate the possible wrongful conviction of a man on death row. Throughout the process Jack falls for the woman (Nicole Kidman) whom the convict (John Cusack) has also been romancing through prison correspondence. The Paperboy first premiered in Cannes and plays limited theaters starting October 5th.
