Director John Madden Takes on Charlize Theron Produced Murder Mystery

John MaddenIt looks like the sixty-three year old director John Madden is ready to get back in the saddle again. Madden has signed on to direct “Murder Mystery,” a whodunit comedy set up at Endgame Entertainment. Charlize Theron who is becoming more business minded everyday, will produce and is in talks to star in the film. But nothing is guaranteed.

The fantastic James Vanderbilt wrote the screenplay for the film. Vanderbilt scribed the underrated classic Zodiac, directed by David Fincher,  and his most recent work includes ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ premiering next month.

“Set in the exotic reaches of Mediterranean Europe, James Vanderbilt’s script is a mouthwatering and hilarious take on the classic whodunit, weaving comedy, action, and mystery around an irresistible core: an American couple abroad,” Madden said in a statement. “It honors the genre while stretching its assumptions in delicious, surprising and intoxicating ways.”

John Madden is best known for directing Shakespeare in Love, which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1998, and for which he was also nominated as Best Director; he lost to Steven Spielberg for Saving Private Ryan.

He has had some misses over the last couple of years, but I like John Madden‘s standard way of filming. He directs from a classical point of view. His films remind me of the golden age of cinema. Stay tune for more details.
