Emilie de RavinOnce Upon a Time: Emilie de Ravin Promoted to Series Regular for Season 2

According to TVLine’s Matt Webb Mitovich, Emilie de Ravin has been promoted to series regular for season 2 of Once Upon A Time. Here’s excerpt from the article, which gives some scoop on de Ravin’s promotion:

As Once scribe Jane Espenson recently explained to us, “We cast [Emilie] thinking that she’d be great for this but that it would probably be a one-shot — but if she didn’t get a pilot and she had a good time and she’s available, we knew that of course she’d be welcome back!”

De Ravin, whose ABC pilot Americana did not get picked up for the fall, appeared in a total of three Once Upon a Time episodes during the show’s freshman run.

My thoughts: I loved Emilie de Ravin as Belle in season 1, so I’m very happy that she has been made a series regular. On the other hand, I’m worried that Emilie de Ravin and Meghan Ory (Ruby/Red Riding Hood/Wolf) being made series regulars will cause the writers to continue to neglect a lot of the series regulars on the show. If there’s one thing that I think the writers didn’t do a very good job of in season 1 was trying to give all of the series regulars an equal or fair amount of screen time. Instead, the writers quickly got stuck on focusing primarily on Emma, Henry, Mary Margaret/Snow White, David/Prince Charming, Regina/The Evil Queen and Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin. While I love all of those characters, I’m also very interested in seeing more of the other characters, so that’s definitely something that the writers try to do a better job of in season 2.
