Joss WhedonHere are the first images from Joss Whedon‘s black-and-white film take on William Shakespeare‘s Much Ado About Nothing.

This drama is one of the great comedy plays by William Shakespeare. The play revolves around two pairs of lovers, Beatrice and Benedick and Claudio and Hero. The main plot of the play revolves around obstacles to the union of the two young lovers – Claudio and Hero. The love-hate relationship of Beatrice and Benedick features the “merry war” of the sexes. Benedick thinks he hates Beatrice but really loves her and Beatrice who thinks she hates Benedick but really loves him.

This seems to be a modern take on the film. Fresh off The Avengers, Whedon Bringing along his Avengers star Clark Gregg and The Cabin in the Woods female lead Amy Acker, along with frequent collaborator Nathan Fillion.

The film was shot in 12 days on a tiny budget. Whedon has said of the film that its a “love letter, to the text, to the cast, even to the house it’s shot in. All [involved are] dedicated to the idea that this story bears retelling, that this dialogue is as fresh and intoxicating as any being written, and that the joy of working on a passion project surrounded by dear friends, admired colleagues and an atmosphere of unabashed rapture far outweighs their hilariously miniature paychecks.”

The film will premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and also starring Alexis Denisof, Fran Kranz, Jillian Morgese, Sean Maher and Reed Diamond.
