First Look at Tom Hanks in The Wachowskis Cloud Atlas

Written by Alexander Tucker   // 07/25/2012

Cloud AtlasHere are the first images from The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer‘s ambitious undertaking of Cloud Atlas. Based on David Mitchell‘s novel. It really gives us the first look into the style that will be presented by the film. I have to admit, when I first saw the image of Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, I said, “Whoa.”

They both look incredible. The image is of the ”sci-fi story of a man (Tom Hanks) who meets an emissary from an advanced civilization (Halle Berry).” A little confused? Yea, me too. I haven’t read the novel, but will pick it up this weekend and give it a go. I think it’s my duty to do so. One can’t really cover the film without context of the material.

Yesterday it was announced, that Cloud Atlas will premiere at The 2012 Toronto International Film Festival. Unfortunately, I won’t be attending.

The second image is of Jim Broadbent and Ben Whishaw. The ladder, Whishaw, is one of my favorite young actors. He has incredible range and depth of character on every screen I’ve seen him on. The image of the two is described like this, “darkly comic yarn about a composer (Jim Broadbent) and his apprentice (Ben Whishaw).” Still confused? Yea, me too. Sure some of you are saying, ‘I understand’ because you have read the novel, but for those who haven’t, here is the synopsis:

The powerful, inspiring epic Cloud Atlas explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.

Cloud Atlas hits theaters October 26, 2012 with an official running time of 164 minutes.
