FX Renews Louie for a forth season

LouieIn a very predictable move, and a good one I might add, FX has renewed ‘Louie‘ for a fourth 13-episode season. The move was announced this morning at the TCA session. FX also announced that Russell Brand’s Late night show ‘Brand X’ will get seven more episode orders and Martin Sheen will guest star as Charlie Sheen’s father in Anger Management.

Louie is really the story here, or rather Louie C.K. is the story here. His show has been killing, as a stand up comedian would say. In all seriousness though, It’s a really funny and entertaining show. Some have gone as far to say that ‘Louie’ is adding to the evolution of comedy sitcom’s in the same fashion as Seinfeld and Larry David’s, Curb.

Anthony D’Alessandro, the managing editor of Awardsline wrote, ‘It would be an understatement to credit Louis C.K. as another stand-up who has redefined situation comedy like Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David. C.K. isn’t just making funny TV every week in Louie as a single New York City father. He’s revolutionizing it..’

That type of praise hasn’t been out of the ordinary. Most stand up comedians will tell you that Louie is the best sitcom on television. In fact the show won the AFI Television Program of the Year in 2011 and Louis C.K. was nominated for an Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series in back to back years. He lost in 2011, and the results for the 2012 Emmy’s are still pending — The 2012 64th Primetime Emmy Awards Nominations were announced July 19th, where Louie C.K. picked up the Nods. The telecast will take place on September 23, 2012.

In closing, let me say, I love Louie for reasons I dislike many sitcoms.  It has no standard structure, no clear rules within the show’s universe and yet  it uses all the qualities, which would normally be considered flaws and turns them into great assets.

Check out the show for yourself, if you haven’t already. You can catch Louie on FX, Thursday Nights at 10:30pm ET/PT.
