Yes, Robin Scorpio-Drake, is ALIVE! The exciting story lines this summer have generated increased buzz and viewership for the longstanding ABC soap opera General Hospital. Faithful viewers of the soap opera can rest a little more easily now that the ratings are on the up and up, and Robin is back in the picture.

In a week to week comparison, General Hospital ratings are up 127,000 viewers this week as compared to the prior week. Although the news is not all good, as overall viewers are still down significantly as compared to this time last year. But the General Hospital ratings news is a huge step in the right direction. In addition General Hospital received 5 Daytime Emmys this year, including Outstanding Drama Series.

General Hospital, ABC’s last remaining daytime soap opera, was literally knocking on death’s door until new executive producer, Frank Valentini, came aboard to reshape General Hospital after the cancellation of One Life To Live, where he was the executive producer.

Frank Valentini describes the General Hospital transformation, “I think the show was in terrific shape, but there needed to be some tweaks. I think it’s much more my taste, my sensibilities for the show to go a little bit faster. I felt there were some key characters missing, not in terms of who they were, but some archetypes I felt were important to bring on the show. Brining on some One Life to Live characters was a little bit of way to honor the One Life to Live audience and also a way to create a story that was good for the current cast.”

General Hospital will soon be celebrating its 50th Anniversary, and hopes are high for its 51st year. General Hospital will also be changing time slots starting in September. General Hospital will be shifting to 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT/CT starting on Monday, September 10th, 2012. Frank Valentini and cast are very excited about the time change as “Great.”

What is so special about General Hospital is that “People have watched General Hospital for 50 years — the grandmothers, the parents, the kids,” star Nancy Lee Grahn said. “You hear them talking about it all together. .. This audience really paid for television for a long time. They’re very valuable.”

General Hospital is truly a generational phenomenon as many viewers report “growing up” with the soap. Many die this past year on the soap, but many are rejoicing that she is alive again. Although Patrick and Anna have not discovered her yet, we do know that she is in a people, myself included, grew up watching Robin since she was a little kid. It was heartbreaking to see her hospital with Ewen “caring” for her.

In the coming week we will see Sam tyring to break into Todd’s safe, and Alexis and Sonny will be working hard to get Sam and Jason back together. The Robin storyline will also continue to unfold. Liz will also catch Ewen making a mysterious phone call.
