Hitchcock Trailer Starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson

After a few months of pictures and posters, we finally have the first trailer from Hitchcock — starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, and Scarlett Johansson.

This looks like a very clever picture, and for film freaks like me, it will be fun to watch. However, where is the suspense? Making a film about the making of Psycho, one of the most timeless films in history, doesn’t strike me as dramatic storytelling. Too many people know what happens at the end. Every question mark in this film has a world known answer.

I’m much more excited about HBO’s Hitchcock film. I feel like Sacha Gervasi’s Hitchcock starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, and Scarlett Johansson is just the retelling of of a couple Psycho biography’s aired on television over the years. I wish Hitchcock was about the man, the way Robert Downey Jr’s Chaplin was about the man.

I’d of much rather seen Alfred Hitchcock in High school getting into trouble for drawing pictures of murder. Or see what drew him into film and where he met his wife and why he fell in love with her. Not the story of Psycho, the center piece of Alfred Hitchcock’s life story. You wouldn’t make a film about Michael Jordan’s 1998 World Championship run. The film about MJ’s rise through high school and college would be much more interesting.

With all that said, let me reiterate, I think film will be solid, and I look forward to seeing it because I love the filmmaking business. But, I think Alfred Hitchcock’s life is much bigger than Psycho and I would have preferred the life story grand tour sorta speck.

Hitchcock hit theaters on November 23rd, 2012. Based on Stephen Rebello‘s novel, Hitchcock was directed by Sacha Gervasi and stars  Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, and Scarlett Johansson.
