Ken Watanabe Will Play Eastwood in Japanese Unforgiven RemakeI always get a kick out of remakes of American films from other countries. They’re so fun to watch and then compare and contrast. Well, the latest American Remake with buzz, is the Japanese remake of  ’Unforgiven.’ Ken Watanabe is attached.

In case you forgot (How Could You?) Unforgiven is a 1992 American Western film produced and directed by Clint Eastwood. Eastwood also played the lead and the film co-starred Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman, who gave a great performance.

The film tells the story of William Munny, an aging outlaw and killer who takes on one more job years after he had hung up his guns and turned to farming. The farming isn’t working out so well, Munny is broke and needs the money. So, he takes a gig as a hired gun man.

Well, in the Japanese Unforgiven remake, Ken Watanabe will play the part of Eastwood. Warner Entertainment Japan is behind the project, which will be directed by Lee Sang-Il.Koichi Sato has been cast in the Gene Hackman role and Akira Emoto is set to play the Morgan Freeman part.  Shooting will take place in Hokkaido this fall for a fall 2013 release date.

The Japanese have some big shoes to film, the original Unforgiven, in 1992 won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Hackman), and Best Film Editing.
