LeverageLeverage News: About Season 6: From Dean Devlin

In “A Letter from Dean Devlin” on we received the news today that Leverage has not been picked up for a Sixth Season. The show has not been cancelled yet either, so the future is still uncertain.

As of the writing of this letter, we still do not know if there will be a season six of our show.  Just as we didn’t know when we created the last three episodes which are about to air.  Because of this uncertainty, John Rogers and I decided to end this season with the episode we had planned to make to end the series, way back when we shot the pilot.  So, the episode that will air on Christmas is, in fact, the series finale we had always envisioned.

This is not to say we would not do a season six should we get the opportunity.

In asking what may have gone wrong, I believe that the show would have garnered a stronger following if it had not been shifted around so much. There have been no less than six schedule changes since the series began five years ago. I know because I was watching it one week and unable to find it the next. I had my cable box set to DVR the program and it wasn’t there. This season TNT scheduled Leverage at 8:00 PM/7:00 Central for a few episodes, then moved it to 9:00 PM/8:00 Central after the Falling Skies Summer Finale. The Mid-Season finale of Leverage was followed up with yet another scheduling change, placing it on Tuesday Nights at 10:00 PM/ 9:00 Central. That kind of shifting would hurt any show, regardless of the fan base.

The Letter from Dean Devlin goes on to say that everyone involved would continue if the show is picked up. I want to remind the Leverage fans out there that in Season one Finale of Leverage the future of the show was also uncertain; the cast members really thought that was the end and filmed it as such. Each season Finale has given us a possible last episode and so the fans are used to it. In the words of the song, however “This could be the last time, may be the last time, I don’t know.”

If this is the last time it will not be for lack of support of the Leverage fans. Self-titled Grifters, Hitters, Hackers, Thieves and Masterminds have fought hard with e-mails, cards, letters, tweets and blog posts. We have tried to “Go Steal a Season Six.”  Today Dean Devlin says “Let’s go steal a series finale!”

Leverage Returns on Tuesday Night on TNT at 10:00 PM/9:00 PM Central with “The Corkscrew Job” The proposed Finale will air on Christmas… Merry Christmas, Leverage fans. Let’s make it a good one with the highest ratings ever! Show TNT that we know Leverage.
