Lifetime Movie Holiday Spin Starring Ralph Macchio
Blake and his mother Roxy live in Charlotte, NC. Roxy owns a dance studio and Blake is looking forward to a career as a fighter. On Thanksgiving Eve, there is a terrible car accident. Blake’s mother is killed and he is seriously injured. After he recovers, he finds Ruben at his bedside announcing he is his father and is taking him back to Miami. At 17, Blake cannot live on his own and has no choice but to go with the man who abandoned him as a baby. Ruben owns a dance studio where he lives with his wife, Emily. His career as a ballroom dancer came to an end years ago and his studio has serious financial problems. One of his dancers, Pia is competing in the Holiday Spin with Rob – Ruben’s prodigy. It is a dance competition held every Christmas Eve with the couples dancing to Christmas carols. The grand prize of $50,000 goes to the dance studio. After Pia rejects Rob’s sexual advances, he cheats on her with Tezza, and he decides to make Tezza his new dance partner at a competing dance studio. Even though Blake hasn’t danced since he was a little boy, he begins dancing with Pia and the two decide to compete in the Holiday Spin.

Ralph Macchio as “Ruben”
Proving his talent on the screen, stage, and in television, Ralph Macchio garners respect at every turn. He has just wrapped shooting the highly anticipated feature film, “Hitchcock,” in which he portrays “Psycho” screenwriter, Joseph Stefano, acting opposite Sir Anthony Hopkins. The film also stars, Helen Mirren, Scarlett Johansson, Toni Collette and Jessica Beil. He also will be a recurring guest star as Fran Drescher’s love interest on the hit TV Land sitcom, “Happily Divorced”, just picked up for its third season.
Last year Macchio completed a highly successful run on ABC’s, “Dancing with the Stars” where he instantly became a popular fan favorite.
Prior to that, as an actor, Macchio completed a two-season arc of his recurring role on ABC’s, “Ugly Betty,” playing Queens Councilman, Archie Rodriguez. He wrapped the indie comedy “He’s Way More Famous Than You” and a comedic guest star lead on USA’s hit series “Psych,” as well as a dramatic guest lead character on ABC’s drama, “The Whole Truth.”
He was seen as a guest star on the hit HBO series, “Entourage,” as well as the Starz comedy, “Headcase.” He also appeared in the ensemble softball comedy, “Beer League” and recently completed the indie comedy “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead” which premiered at Slamdance in 2009.
With an extensive list of film credits, Macchio is perhaps best known for his celebrated performance as “Johnny” in Frances Ford Coppola’s, “The Outsiders;” the hit film “My Cousin Vinny,” costarring along with Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei; and for the title roles in the popular classic, “The Karate Kid” and it’s successors, “The Karate Kid II” and “The Karate Kid III.”
For Walter Hill’s “Crossroads,” Macchio learned to play guitar with intricate style for his role as a musical prodigy. He starred opposite John Lithgow in “Distant Thunder” as well as the ensemble film, “Naked in New York.” Other film credits include, “Teachers,” with Nick Nolte; “A Good Night to Die” costarring Ally Sheedy, Michael Rapaport and Laine Kazan, “Forever Together” with Diane Ladd, “Too Much Sun” and “Up the Academy,” both with Robert Downey Jr.
Macchio received critical acclaim for the title role in the ABC television film, “The Last Pow? The Bobby Garwood Story.” Some other television movie credits include, “The Three Wishes of Billy Grier” for ABC, and “Dangerous Company” for CBS. His start in television came with a regular role on the ABC series “Eight Is Enough.”
As a filmmaker/producer/writer, Macchio has written and directed a short entitled “Love Thy Brother,” which premiered at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival and can now be seen on HBO and iTunes. He also is currently Executive Producing a TV Docu-Series for National Geographic Channel entitled, “American Gypsies.”
In television, Ralph has co-created, with Todd Holland, a half-hour comedy series pilot script entitled “The Ralph Show” through 20th Century Fox Television. Macchio has co-created an hour pilot script for ABC Family entitled, “Cupidity” and is in development on a reality series, “Respect” which deals with the issue of teen bullying.
On the NY stage, he made his Broadway debut starring opposite Robert DeNiro in the sold-out Joseph Papp production of Cuba and His Teddy Bear at the Longacre Theatre.
He received critical acclaim, starring in the National Tour of the Broadway musical-comedy revival How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, directed by Des McAnuff. He originated the role of Calvin in the Off-Broadway production of Magic Hands Freddy starring opposite Michael Rispoli. Other theatre credits include the off-Broadway comedy, “Only Kidding.”
He’s also the voice of Tim in the MGM animated feature, “The Secret of NIMH II,” in which he recorded two songs for the film that also appear on the soundtrack.
