The tempestuous love affair between Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton began on the set of ‘Cleopatra.’

The filming of Lifetime TV Movie ‘Liz & Dick’ has officially wrapped, and the film has a planned premiere date of November 3, 2012 on Lifetime TV.

The film ‘Liz & Dick’ follows the complex love affair between Elizabeth Taylor (Lindsay Lohan) and Richard Burton (Grant Bowler). Their tempestuous love affair officially began on the set of ‘Cleopatra,’ the main setting of Lifetime Movie ‘Liz & Dick.’

Prior to beginning their love affair Richard Burton did not have a flattering view of Elizabeth Taylor. In fact he stated publicly, “All this stuff about her being the most beautiful woman in the world is absolute nonsense. She’s a pretty girl, of course, and she has wonderful eyes. But she has a double chin and an overdeveloped chest and she’s rather short in the leg.”

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton were both married to other people when they began filming ‘Cleopatra.’ Liz was married to Eddie Fisher and Richard Burton was married to Sybil Burton.

In her autobiography Elizabeth Taylor stated, “I knew what I was doing, loving Richard, was wrong. But I couldn’t help loving Richard. I don’t think that was without honor. I don’t think that was dishonest. It was a fact I could not evade.”

After Elizabeth and Richard had consummated their love, Richard walked into the makeup trailer and exclaimed, “Gentlemen, last night, I screwed Miss. Elizabeth Taylor in the backseat of my Cadillac.” It was not out of the ordinary for Richard Burton to have sex with his leading ladies in almost every movie.

After their love affair became well known to all of the cast and crew on the set of ‘Cleopatra’ it became very difficult to hide it from the press.Liz & Dick Movie Lindsay Lohan

After their love affair became public and Eddie Fisher found out about it, Elizabeth Taylor had an episode in her hotel room in which she took some sleeping pills. A maid found Elizabeth Taylor after she had taken the pills and screamed, “Miss Taylor has taken too many pills… I can’t wake her.”

An ambulance was called and Elizabeth Taylor had to have her stomach pumped. She survived the episode, although some reports are that she may have swallowed up to thirty pills.

Many of the people in Rome (where ‘Cleopatra’ was filming) wanted to give Elizabeth Taylor a piece of their mind. As Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton dined out on the town one night, people began to call her, “Homewrecker, Whore and Unfit Mother.”

Liz & Dick later wed in 1964 and stayed together for ten years. They divorced and then got remarried in 1975, a marriage that ended one year later. Liz Taylor had a total of seven different husbands.

The love affair between Liz & Dick lasted a life time even though it was off and on. The last letter Richard Burton wrote, hours before his death, was to Liz. That letter stayed next to Liz’s bed for the rest of her life. The love letter was buried with Liz Taylor and only tidbits of the letter were revealed by her, but most of the contents are unknown. The Liz & Dick Lifetime Movie is a “no-holds barred account of their undying, but impossible love.”
