Michael Fassbender Will Star in Assassin’s Creed

Michael FassbenderWhen Michael Fassbender is done filming Twelve Years a Slave and The Counselor with Brad Pitt, he has another job all lined up. ”X-Men: First Class” and “Shame” actor is attached to star in “Assassin’s Creed,” based on the massively successful video game franchise from Ubisoft. This news is going to make fanboys and fangirls go crazy.

Variety is reporting that Fassbender will be co-producing an Assassin’s Creed movie with his production company DMC Film.

The plot for ‘Assassin’s Creed’ revolves around a man who learns his ancestors were trained assassins after he is kidnapped by a secret organisation with ties to the Knights Templar, and sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts. “Michael Fassbender was our first choice” to play the franchise’s iconic hooded hero, said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.” Originally Ubisoft was in talks with Sony Pictures to develop a series of ‘Assassin’s Creed’ movies, but the companies have since put negotiations on hold.

Though Desmond serves as a through line across the games, it’s likely that Fassbender would be playing one of the actual assassins instead. Ezio Auditore da Firenze is the main character in the second and third “Assassin’s Creed” games and is widely considered a fan-favorite, making him a likely candidate for Fassbender’s character; then again, the Golden Globe nominee could well be playing both Desmond and one of the ancient assassins.
