This new clip from Andrew Dominik’s ‘Killing Them Softly,’ had me laughing my ass off. In it Sam Shepard’s character, Dillon, and a gun-thug “Shakedown” Ray Liotta’s character Markie Trattman. It’s hilarious in that it reminds me of Ray Liotta’s good ol’ days in ‘Goodfellas.’ Maybe it’s the inflection of his voice as he gets thrown out the back door of his house.
To be serious though, this film has been billed as raw and the two clips I’ve seen, has proven it so. It has that great taint of realism.
The film is based on George V. Higgins’s 1974 novel, ‘Cogan’s Trade.’ The title character is a hit man named Jackie Cogan who is played by Brad Pitt, who is not in this scene, but in another clip tvfilmnews debut this weekend.
The film is a rather simple one: Jackie Cogan (Pitt) is a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that went down during a mob-protected poker game. A game Ray Liotta’s character is in charge of. The problem? A long time ago he bragged about fleecing his own game in a con and that makes him the prime suspect for the most recent robbery, which is the center piece of this story. Check it out.
