The Reviews are in on ‘Killing Them Softly,’ and Pitts been praised, but it seems like the analytical audience loves the film in its entirety, while the action seekers hoped for more blood letting.
Sure Andrew Dominik’s ‘Killing Them Softly‘ is a thriller, but as Kevin Jagernauth of indiewire puts it, “As a straight up genre flick, it’s an anti-thriller .”
MORE: ‘KILLING THE SOFTLY’ REVIEW
The film is layered and tries it’s best to make a bigger point, daring the audience to look part the violence and into the hearts of men. Some men have power and the rest are on their own. Dialogue from Obama and Mccain ’08 fill the background of the story through billboards, radio background campaign ads and even during the opening credits. The film overtly emphasizing Obama’s Hope, Change and togetherness rhetoric in particularly. This film and Brad Pitt’s character Jackie Cogan seems to knows better. After all he’s a hit man and in the film he mocks Obama and says, “We’re all just on our own.”
It does’t matter if you agree with Brad Pitt’s character of not, In fact, I choose to be an optimist, but this film is ambitious and plays to the growing cynicism we are subject to everyday via talk radio, cable news, and guys we meet on the subways. I look forward to seeing it and it’s nice to get a little video here today.
