Gangster Squad

Warner Brother released a new Gangster Squad Banner (Above) featuring Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Emma Stone and Sean Penn.

The film is as “a colorful retelling of events” surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take down Brooklyn-born, “Jewish Mafia” king Meyer Harris ‘Mickey’ Cohen (Oscar-winner Sean Penn) during the 1940s. The film was scripted by former LA cop Will Beall (who’s writing Justice League) and directed by Ruben Fleischer of Zombieland fame

The one thing I took away from the trailer was Ryan Goslings both is or rather obnoxious agent. It will be fun to see how its used through out the film.

I think Gangster Squad could have relatively broad appeal at the box office. People who are interested foremost in some flash and bang (stylized action, Gosling mackin’ on Emma Stone) should get their money’s worth, while other folk will be intrigued to see what actors such as Penn, Brolin, and Nick Nolte bring to the familiar cops-and-crooks proceedings.

Her’s the official synopsis: Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “The Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.
