Hawaii Five-0 Season 3 Premiere ScoopHawaii Five-0: Scoop on the season 3 premiere

Here’s some scoop on Hawaii Five-O from TVLine’s Matt Webb Mitovich’s weekly column Matt’s Inside Line for the week of 9/20/12.

Hawaii Five-0 | I finally got around to screening the season premiere (airing Monday at 10/9c), and while I know a few of you are less-than-enthused about meeting Mama Garrett (played by Christine Lahti), I must say, for a woman of a certain age she’s quite impressive, especially in her confidence and her attitude. (For one, her own nickname for Danno is “Smart-ass.” There’s also the nature of the question she lobs at Steve’s crush Catherine the instant they sit down for small-talk.) A few other quick notes on the alternately grim, intense and light hour: You’ll learn what the exploding of the HPD was really about; there’s a shoot-out that probably expends the most bullet casings ever in a TV show; Catherine proves herself to be rather kick-ass in her own right; and you’ll get a kick out of the new ringtone associated with Danny’s ex.

CBS has a mixed bag with Hawaii Five-0. On one hand, the show has performed better than many of the pundits expected. Reboots on television are very tricky. However, the public was intrested and the show premiered to 14.20 million viewers. Champaign all around.

However, the ratings have been meek. The show has finished 22nd and 26th in its first two season. The first season of Hawaii Five-0 averaged 11.96 million viewers. The second season failed to grow year-to-year in ratings averaging 11.83 million viewers per week. Now, for most shows and most networks, these number are more than respectable, but on CBS, they are low. NCIS, NCIS LA, The Mentalist, Person of Interest, The Big Bang Theory, are all crushing this show in ratings.

Here’s the problem with that. Filming on location in in Hawaii is very expensive. Hawaii Five-0 is one of if not thee post expensive show CBS produces. I’m telling you right now, if Hawaii Five-0 dips in year-to-year ratings again, it will be on the chopping block.

Hawaii Five-0 returns in 3 days. Episode 3×01 is titled ‘La O Markuahine.’ It premires on monday September 24, 2012 at 10pm on CBS.
