New Images of Michael Shannon in The Iceman

Written by Alexander Tucker   // 07/31/2012

Michael ShannonI remember watching the HBO documentary about this nut case, Richard “The Iceman” Kuklinski, and he creeped me out then and creeps me out now. I could see the future prospects of a film about this guy being made, I just wonder’d who’d play him. Well, they have the right guy. The master of creep, Michael Shannon.

“The Iceman” will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in a few weeks and the film stars, along with Shannon, Ray Liotta, Chris Evans, and Winona Ryder. The film is about the real life story of mob hit-man Richard “The Iceman” Kuklinski and some of his most gruesome hits. Ariel Vroman is directing.

The most interesting thing about Michael Shannon is the fact he wasn’t always this actor. He has been around the film world for a long time, but it wasn’t really until, Bug, in 2006 opposite Ashley Judd, when casting directors began to give him all the weird guy roles.

In fact, Michael Shannon was in Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. He played Fred, the young groom to be. Murray’s character have him Wrestle Mania tickets. He also played a Sargeant in Tigerland and a Lieutenant in Pearl Harbor. He was an “American  Boy” early on in his career, now he plays America’s creeps.  And no one is better at it than Michael Shannon.
