The MentalistThe Mentalist: Van Pelt and Rigsby related scoop

Here’s some scoop on The Mentalist from TVLine’s Matt Webb Mitovich’s weekly column Matt’s Inside Line for the week of 10/4/12.

The Mentalist

Dipping into the mailbag, Laura asks: “Can I have a scoop about other characters from The Mentalist, like Van Pelt and Rigsby?” I relayed your request to EP Tom Szentgyorgyi, who for starters promised we’ll meet “someone new in Van Pelt’s future.” As for Rigsby, “He will cross paths with his father again, and continue to cope with his new life as a single dad.” (As show boss Bruno Heller previously teased, the Rigsby men’s “very conflicted and difficult relationship… comes to an epic head in Episode 4.”) As an added bonus, Szentgyorgyi shared that “Cho will start moonlighting with a second CBI unit, which leads him to a surprising encounter with someone from his past.” Scoop need sated?

The Mentalist returns for it’s second episode of the season in 2 days. The Mentalist, 5×02 is titled ‘Devil’s Cherry.’ In The Mentalist, 5×02, ‘Devil’s Cherry,’ while the team investigates the murder of a diamond cutter, Jane meets a girl who claims to be his late daughter, Charlotte.

The Mentalist 5×02, ‘Devil’s Cherry,’ will air on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 10:30pm on CBS. The Mentalist stars Simon Baker, Robin Tunney and Tim Kang.

The Mentalist Ratings Note

In The Mentalist season five premiere, over 11 million people tuned in. 11.06 million to be exact. Unfortunately,  that’s the lowest premiere that The Mentalist has ever had. The first four seasons premiered to over 14 million viewers. The Series premiere of The Mentalist was watched by 17.52 million. So, The Mentalist could be in a little bit of trouble here and I hate to say that because it’s been one of my favorite shows. Keep an eye on these low ratings if your a fan like me. CBS won’t put up with anything below 10 million viewers per week. Not on a Sunday night. A few more weeks of ratings like this and The Mentalist producers and actors may start to worry about not getting a sixth season.
