New Total Recall Action Featurette Featuring Colin Ferrell

Written by Alexander Tucker   // 07/24/2012

Total Recall Action Featurette Total Recall along with The Bourne Legacy are the last of the summer Mohicans (Blockbusters). Earlier today we received a new Bourne Legacy Featurette from Universal and moments ago we received a new Featurette of Total Recall from Columbia Pictures.

I have talked at great lengths about this film and its justification. The truth is, the original Total Recall is cheese, but is lovable in a novelty kind of way. I liked the thought of this remake from the beginning. I’m a fan of Colin Farrell, a big fan actually. I think he’s a great actor — One of about a dozen solid leading men in rotation. However, I worry about the timing of this film and it’s box office prospects.

I know I’m supposed to be objective when it comes to films, but I can’t help but root for this films success. The problem I see however is summer blockbuster fatigue and an enormous $200 million dollar budget. Consider this, The Bourne Legacy cost $90 million to make and I bet it out grosses Total Recall domestically and world wide.

One can’t deny the films talent however. Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, Bryan Cranston and Ethan Hawke are all fine actors. Well, Jessica Biel is average, but she is a big star. Still I feel like this film is set to bomb.

Total Recall’s marketing has been scant at best and there were reports that Mark Bomback and James Vanderbilt had to come in and “polish” Kurt Wimmer’s script. Variety also reported bloated budget demands and Arnold Schwarzenegger has expressed his disappointment in not being part of the film is some way. He wanted a cameo and was denied. Then, Eva Green and Kate Bosworth dropped out of the film before Jessica Biel was finally cast. What I’m getting at is this: The film hasn’t had great press. But hey, the reviews aren’t in, so we will have to wait and see if I’m right. If the film is panned by critics though, this film will struggle to make it’s $200 million dollars back.

On a positive note, here is the new featurette. Sorry for the Debbie Downer post, but all this just occurred to me and I had to get it off my chest. With all that said, I think this film looks really good and I can’t wait to see it. The footage in this featurette should open a lot of eyes and I hope it succeeds at the Box Office. I hope I’m completely wrong in my estimation of its Box Office performance.
