Great Expectations Trailer Starring Helena Bonham Carter

Here’s the debut trailer for Mike Newell’s adaptation of Charles Dickens, ‘Great Expectations.’

I always enjoy a new adaptation of Great Expectations. It’s one of the great books of all time. No one ever seems to get it right, becasue the novel is so detailed and long, but there seems to be hope in Mike Newell’s latest version.

The cast is fantastic. Jeremy Irvine stars as the young Pip, and along with Fiennes will be joined by a great cast, headed up by Helena Bonham Carter, Holliday Grainger, Jason Flemyng, Robbie Coltrane, Sally Hawkins, and Ewen Bremner. That’s a lot of talent, and it’s going to be interesting to see if Jeremy Irvine can step up and become on of films next leading men.

If you haven’t read the book or seen any adaptations here’s a quick overview: “Young orphan Pip is given a chance to rise from his humble beginnings thanks to a mysterious benefactor. Moving through London’s class ridden world as a gentleman, Pip uses his new found position to pursue the beautiful Estella; a spoilt heiress he’s loved since childhood. Yet the shocking truth behind his great fortune will have devastating consequences for everything he holds dear.

This adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic and finest novel is directed by Mike Newell, produced by Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley, and written by acclaimed screenwriter and novelist David Nicholls.”

Great Expectations will be premiering at Toronto next month, and will be released in the UK on 30th November. No word yet on a US release.
