Newsies Actor Jeremy Jordan Added to Season 2 of Smash

According to TVLine’s Michael Ausiello, Jeremy Jordan will be joining the cast of Smash as a series regular for its second season. Here’s an excerpt from the original article, which gives some details on Jordan’s role on Smash:

Jordan will play a very sexy (and straight) Brooklyn-born singer with a self-destructive streak.

His character is one of three roles being added under new showrunner Josh Safran. The other newbies, a gay male Broadway dreamer and an African-American female chorus member, have yet to be cast.

The trio will fill the void left by departing castmembers Jaime Cepero (Ellis), Raza Jaffrey (Dev) and Brian D’Arcy James (Frank).

Jordan — who will continue to appear in Newsies while he shoots Smash — guest-starred on Law & Order: SVU in 2008 and also had a role in the Queen Latifah comedy Joyful Noise.

My thoughts: While Jeremy Jordan‘s role sounds kind of interesting, it’s not enough to convince me to start watching Smash again. I tried several times to get into it, but I never could. Josh Safran being named the new showrunner for Smash definitely killed any lingering interest that I had in watching the show. I’ve already suffered through several seasons of Gossip Girl where Safran slowly drove the show into the ground during his time as the showrunner for the show. I really don’t want to subject myself to more of his atrocious writing for god only knows how many years he’ll be the showrunner for Smash if I can help it.
