Pictures of The Stars at The ‘Bachelorette’ Premiere in LA
08/26/2012
There is a lot going on here with “Bachelorette.’ Yes, this post is about all the girls on the Red Carpet on Friday night for the film’s premiere, but allow me to make two points.
First Point: My guess, and the rest of the film community’s guess, is this film was fast tracked because of the success of The Hangover and Bridesmaids. I think that is obvious to everyone. Without those two film, this film might have been made (doubtful), but even if it was made, it wouldn’t have landed the fantastic talent that it did: Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan and Rebel Wilson.
It’s the film’s fatal flaw. Because of comparisons to The Hangover and Bridesmaids, this film has been a cast off for most “Serious” film reviewers and journalists. There is this strange resentment in Hollywood when it comes to copycat films, even if said copycat film looks pretty funny. Because we all know, this film will not be as great as The Hangover and Bridesmaids, but it will be compared and inevitably disappoint. This film hasn’t been allowed to stand on its own, and so it is viewed as the third wheel.
Second Point: So what? Give these ladies a break! They all took pay cuts to make this film. The films budget was only $3 million dollars, and yet they landed Kristen Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan and Adam Scott. Dunst gets close to $3 million a picture, so judging by the budget, I’d say she probably took a HUGE pay cut and made about $100,000 for this film. MY POINT? Arn’t actors allowed to have fun every once and a while? Caplan and Dunst are good friends off camera, they brought in Isla Fisher and the hilarious Rebel Wilson and from all accounts, had a blast making this film — laughing none stop. Dunst said in a recent interview, “We could make a gag reel an hour long.”
For some reason, we want our actors like Kristen Dunst, to make serious dramas all the time — we roll our eyes when actors branch out of their comfort zone. But the truth is, it’s our comfort zone with actors like Jim Carry that made people scoff at him for taking on serious roles, that is in need of comfort.
We want our comedic actors to make strictly comedy. We want our dramatic actors to make strictly drama. Cinephiles are notorious snobs. How do I know? I am one, with one glaring difference. I’m not going to try and rip this film down or any film down before I see it, just because it was birthed on the heels and success of other films like, The Hangover and Bridesmaids.
Anyway, here are the photos from the ‘Bachelorette‘ Premiere at the Arclight Cinema in L.A. Friday Night. In attendance was Adam Scott, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, James Marsden, Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Aly Raisman, Lindsay Sloane, Rebel Wilson, Ali Larter and Lizzy Caplan. The girls look great. Oh, and Bachelorette hit theaters on September 7. See the trailer at the bottom.
Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan star in this comedy about three dysfunctional friends who attempt to leave the past behind while serving as bridesmaids at the wedding of a girl they mocked mercilessly back in high school. As teenagers, Regan (Dunst), Gena (Caplan) and Katie (Fisher) used to call Becky (Rebel Wilson) Pig Face. A few years later, Becky is about to tie the knot, and calls on her taunting former classmates to join the wedding party. And though Regan is determined to give Becky a bachelorette bash she’ll never forget, tart-tongued Gena has already started partying hard well before the big night, and capricious Katie seems to have her head stuck in the clouds. Later, as the ladies cut loose and the booze begins to flow, a mishap with the wedding dress sends the entire event spiraling out of control, leading to a wild night of debauchery that neither the bride nor her bridesmaids will ever forget.
