I am more than just a fan of Michel Gondry’s work, I worship it. Not the man mind you, but the creativity of his work. He is a brilliant filmmaker. No, he is not for everybody, but I tell you, he is the most unique director on the planet. he takes risks that most filmmakers wouldn’t dare.
Just watching his films Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and The Science of Sleep, doesn’t do his filmmaking craftsmanship justice. You have to watch the behind the scenes footage to get the whole picture. He morphs the camera angles in ways that create wonderful visual illusions. His skill is absurd and remarkable.
I didn’t enjoy his work of The Green Hornet because it was too Hollywood for such a director as Michel Gondry. Lucky for us, he seems to be coming home to his filmmaking roots with his new project Mood Indigo.
Moon Indigo has the look of a Michel Gondry film. It’s unmistakable. Just by looking at the photo’s of the film he recently released, you can see his finger prints all over it.
Moon indigo stars Audrey Tautou, Omar Sy, Gad Elmaleh, Charlotte Lebon, Alain Chabat, Aissa Maiga, Philipe Torrenton and Natacha Regnier. It’s based on Boris Vian‘s 1947 novel, “L’Ecume des jours,” and tells the tale of Colin (Duris), the wealthy inventor of an olfactory musical instrument, the pianocktail. He marries Chloe (Tautou), but unfortunately, she falls ill during their honeymoon thanks to a water lily that enters her lung, and the only way to treat the ailment is to surround her with fresh flowers — an expense that soon drains his funds.
No release date has been announced, but as you can see, Moon Indigo’s production is well underway.
