Rachel Weisz The Bourne Legacy Interview

I’ve been a long time fan of Rachel Weisz and its nice to see her rejoin the ranks of the blockbusters. After her run with The Mummy, Enemy at the Gates, and Constantine, its understandable that she began to shy away from $100 million dollar budgeted films.

In her first release from the standard hollywood blockbuster she blew us all away in The Constant Gardener and proved to the world and her piers that she was more than a pretty face, but an actress of note who should be respected for her talent. She would remain in indie land for the next five years, making films like The Fountain, My Blueberry Nights, Page Eight and The Whistleblower. They were all good films and she gave a truly magnificent performance as Kathryn Bolkovac in The Whistleblower, a film I was able to screen in 2010. If you haven’t seen it, you should.

With all that said, and with nothing else to prove, I’m happy to see her back in an action packed thriller and working with a smash mouth director like Tony Gilroy. I also think its fair to say that she has taken a step up from Brendan Fraser to play opposite the new kid on the block, Jeremy Renner.

I expect big things from The Bourne Legacy and Rachel Weisz is a huge reason why. This film is staked with talented veterans of film and we should expect nothing less then a world class action film. No, I’m not saying it will be Oscar worthy, but in the world and context of action films, I expect it to hold its own.

The film also stars Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, David Strathairn, Albert Finney, Stacy Keach, Scott Glenn, Corey Stoll, and Donna Murphy.  The Bourne Legacy opens on August 10th.
