The Men of a Certain Age alum has booked a multi-episode arc in Parenthood‘s upcoming fourth season, playing a photographer who takes an interest in Lauren Graham’s perpetually conflicted leading lady.

As TVLine previously reported, Jason Ritter is set to return to the NBC drama as Sarah’s maybe-fiancé, so expect the latter’s friendship with Romano’s photog to complicate things.

My thoughts: I have to say that I’m pretty excited about this casting news. I’ve been a big fan of Ray Romano ever since he was on Everybody Loves Raymond, and I thought he was great Men of a Certain Age. As much as I like Mark and I enjoy watching the interractions between Sarah and Mark, I’d like to see Sarah date men who are closer to her in age, especially since Amber and Drew have had their fair share of issues with her dating a younger guy, plus he’s a teacher at the high school that Amber went to when she was in high school and Drew goes to that high school now too.

One thing that I’d like to see the writers focus on more is Sarah getting her life together and less on her extremely complicated love life. After all, Sarah and her kids moved in with Zeek and Camille because she felt she needed to get her kids away from her ex-husband, Seth, due to the fact that he had problems with addiction and she was broke, but instead the writers have focused mainly on Sarah’s very complicated love life. I loved the whole storyline with Sarah writing and producing a play in season 2. I really wish the writers had continued the idea of Sarah becoming a successful playwright. Although since Megan Masters made point of mentioning Romano’s character being of photographer. Maybe the writers are planning on having Sarah pursue a career in photography in season 4. If that’s the case, that could be a very interesting storyline.
