Bryan Buckley will direct Reese Witherspoon in her next film, the adaptation of, ‘Men Are from Mars Woman are from Venus.’ It’s interesting to see Reese Witherspoon take on a self help book, Cinemablend wrote, ‘When What to Expect When You’re Expecting reached theaters, the running joke in film circles was that Hollywood studios would begin perusing the self-help sections at neighborhood bookstores (if they could find a bookstore that remained open) and plucking titles off the shelves in hopes of rushing them into pre-production. Now that Expecting has approached $40 million at the domestic box, the joke has become serious business.’
Well, John Gray’s self-help book, Men Are From Mars, is the best-selling non-religious non-fiction hardcover of all time, giving the movie version an almost-guaranteed built-in audience.
Lionsgate Summit will produce the film, which will mark the directorial debut of Bryan Buckley. Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont are writing the screenplay, with a narrative that loosely follows the guide to relationships as laid out in John Gray’s book.
“This book is the essential tool for couples who want to develop more satisfying relationships with their partners,” it says on author John Gray’s official site. ”Throughout the book, he provides a practical and proven way for men and women to communicate better by acknowledging the differences between them. Based on years of counseling couples and research, he gives advice on how to counteract these differences in communication styles, emotional needs and modes of behavior to promote a greater understanding between partners.”
The plan is to shoot the film in January of 2013, with an early 2014 release date in mind.
