ZombieRob Zombie’s newest film, “The Lords of Salem” is set to premiere late 2012/early 2013 and will provide his fans with quite the twisted view on the Salem Witch Trials (which was already pretty twisted to begin with!). Rob Zombie has recently provided updates and previews of the new film (see videos below).

Rob Zombie, who is unofficially known as a member of the “Splat Pack,” recently updated his fans on the progress of his newest film, “The Lords of Salem.” The term “Splat Pack” is a major twist on the term “Brat Pack,” and refers to Zombie’s productions of brutally violent movies. “The Lords of Salem,” will provide viewers with quite the twist on the Salem Witch Trials.

Rob Zombie is a producer, director, musician, writer, actor, animator, and soundtrack producer for countless TV and movie productions. He is best known for writing and directing, “Halloween” (2007), “Halloween II” (2009), and “House of 1000 Corpses” (2003). Rob Zombie is known for really pushing the boundaries on gruesomeness, and “The Lords of Salem” will continue this legacy.Zombie

In “The Lords of Salem” the town of Salem, Massachusetts will be revisited by a 300-year old coven of witches. Rob Zombie reports that this movie has been in the making for five years and will be one of his greatest films yet. He started the idea for “Lords of Salem” five years ago after reading a historical book on the Salem Witch Trials (at a wedding he attended, nonetheless). In his screenplay he decided to twist the story of the Salem Witch Trials and make the executed Salem residents be real witches rather than innocent people.

Rob Zombie goes on to report that the film will be “larger than life” and gigantic in a sense. Zombie reports, ““cinematically I wanted to do something different… all the shots are very symmetrical and composed.” He describes “The Lords of Salem” as being part Stanley Kubrick (“A Clockwork Orange”), part Roman Polanski (“Rosemary’s Baby”), and also some Ken Russell (“The Devils”).

Earlier this Spring, Rob Zombie finished up headlining the Megadeath tour, during which he previewed clips of the new film to his fans. The scenes that he previewed really do look larger than life (see video below). The film is set to premiere late 2012 or early 2013. The stars of “The Lords of Salem” include: Udo Kier, Maria Conchita Alonso, Clint Howard, Sheri Moon Zombie (Rob Zombie’s wife), and Richard Lynch.

Preview Video (#1) and Rob Zombie Interview (#2):

Synopsis: Heidi, a blonde rock chick, DJs at a local radio station and, together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster), forms part of the “Big H Radio Team”. A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, “a gift from the Lords”. She assumes it’s a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords’ record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma. Later Whitey plays the Lords’ record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with listeners. The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H Team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they’re expecting: The original Lords of Salem are returning, and they’re out for BLOOD.
