ConquestI love the mythology of the Aztec’s and the famed Spanish Conquistadors. So you can imagine my delight when I heard David Nevins, Ron Howard, Showtime and Imagine TV was developing Conquest, a sweeping period drama set in that world.

Conquest will be a new drama series about famed Spanish Conquistador Hernan Cortes, who led the Spanish conquest in Mexico, and his clash with Moctezuma II, the last ruler of the Aztec Empire.

The story is described as, “a classic war story about two powerful men and their people ultimately leading to the destruction of the Aztec culture and the men themselves.”

It has reportedly been a long dream for Ron Howard to bring this story to the small screen. His company, Imagine TV is partnering with 20th Century Fox TV’s cable division Fox21 to make it happen.

The key player? Oscar-nominated scribe Jose Rivera is writing the pilot (Motorcycle Diaries), Ron Howard will direct, Brian Grazer executive produce, Star Trek writer Hans Beimler, who was born in Mexico City, will serve as a consultant, with David Nevins will over see it all.

Nevins’ first major buy after he started at the pay cable network, Showtime was another drama project from Fox21, Homeland, which went on to become a breakout commercial and critical hit. So, we know he knows what he is doing. Stay tune, for a time table.
