Ron Howard’s Behind-The-Scenes Featurette of RUSH [Video]

Written by Alexander Tucker   // 05/28/2012

RushWhat a Rush! Actor Chris Hemsworth is pictured left on the set of his new Formula 1 film “Rush.” Directed by Ron Howard.

In the film Hemsworth plays iconic British race car driver James Hunt. The film tells the life and career of the legendary race car driver and Chris Hemsworth looks just like him with the mop long blonde hair and Hunt’s famous red racing suit. The film also delves into Hunt’s rivalry with Niki Lauda a fellow race car driver. Lauda is played by Daniel Bruhl. Joining the two leading men in Ron Howard’s film is Olivia Wilde, Alexandra Maria Lara and Natalie Dormer. The film was peened by ‘The Queen’ and ‘Frost/Nixon’ writer Peter Morgan — marking his second film with the Oklahoma born director Ron Howard — The official synopsis reads like this: ‘Following their personal lives on and off the track, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error. If you make one mistake, you die.’ A release date for the film hasn’t been released.

In this featurette hosted by Ron Howard and the filmmakers of ‘Rush,’ we really get a taste of what this film will look like and it takes you into the world of Indy car racing. This film is going to be fast and hard. I think Ron will shoot it that way because after watching the Indy 500 this weekend I realized that’s what  it is. And its dangerous too.

I really trust Ron Howard with this picture. I think he is the man for the job. I actually think he directed the best boxing scenes I’ve ever seen in ‘Cinderella Man,’ save Martin Scorsese Raging Bull. It makes be believe he will capture the essence of this sport as well. There are so few race car movies, because they are so hard to make and lets face it, Indy Racing is a niche sport and I’m sad to say, I had never heard of James Hunt before this film was put into production. But that’s what these types of films are for, right? To honor great men who did extraordinary things. Before Cinderella Man, I didn’t know who James Braddock was, now his life is an inspiration to me.
