“A Beguiling Romantic Fantasy”

The story of “Ruby Sparks” follows Calvin (Paul Dano), a writing prodigy who wrote his first Best Selling book at the age of 19. Since then he has struggled with writer’s block until one night he dreams about a girl named Ruby Sparks. He immediately goes to his typewriter to start writing about his dream girl, Ruby. Calvin is a very lonely man, with only his dog as his companion.

As he gets into the character of Ruby Sparks, she (Zoe Kazan) starts to come to life. They experience incredible chemistry with one another one screen. In real life Zoe Kazan and Paul Dano are a couple, which makes their relationship seem that much closer on-screen.

What the critics are saying about “Ruby Sparks”:

The Hollywood Reporter: “A beguiling romantic fantasy about the creative process and its potential to quite literally take on a life of its own, Ruby Sparks performs an imaginative high-wire act with finesse and charm.”

IndieWire: “The film is stylish and expertly paced, never dragging, consistently foregrounding the characters and story. These two couples have made a delightful romantic comedy that tugs at the heartstrings and rings of an instant classic. “Ruby Sparks” is a gal you should definitely discover this summer. A-”

Being Flynn With Paul Dano Movie Review

The Huffington Post: “Ruby Sparks is Johnny-with-a-big-wet-fantasy-one note. It is about a male writer creating a woman on a page and controlling her every move. It does not sustain this simplistic story line and has nowhere to go, but ouch!”

Variety: “As they did on “Little Miss Sunshine,” musicvideo/commercial helmers Dayton and Faris tackle a first-time screenwriting effort with smooth, unfussy results. The most distinctive craft element is the music, blending classical selections with Nick Urata’s arpeggio-heavy score to produce dramatic, often frenzied accompaniment for Calvin’s turmoil.”
