Samuel L Jackson Cast in RoboCop Reboot

Written by Alexander Tucker   // 06/07/2012

RobocopThe ‘F’ this, ‘F’ that king of film, Samuel L. Jackson, will play the villain Media Mogul in the RoboCop reboot directed by Jose Padilha. Jackson’s character is said to be “a powerful force in the RoboCop world.” Some have even compared his to media mogul and Fox News mind Rupert Murdock. Last week Gary Oldman also signed on to play Norton.

Two months ago on March 3rd, 2012, it was confirmed that one of my favorite actors Joel Kinnaman will be playing the lead role of Alex Hames Murphy/ RoboCop. You may know Kinnaman from his AMC drama, ‘The Killing.’ In The Killing he plays NARCO turned detective on the pursuit of a murdered teenager. I think he will make the perfect Robocop.

This will be the forth installment of RoboCop. The first film hit theaters in 1987 and was directed by Paul Verhoeven. It was considered a hit. The film made $53 million dollars off a production budget of $13 million. The second and third installment didn’t fair as well. RoboCop being the biggest of the flops. It made only $10 million dalliers and was consider to be on of the biggest flops of 1993. The 3rd installment cost over $22m dollars to make and opened third at the box office behind Tom Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas and Flash and Bone.

I believe this film will fair different. The technology is so advanced that it should at least look good on screen. Plus, if you take out some of the 90′s satire and cork, RoboCop always had a great premise. Now it’s up to these next generation filmmakers and actors to get it right.
