Status of the Arsenio Hall Late Night Talk Show
ARSENIO HALL NOW SOLD IN MORE THAN 85% OF THE COUNTRY
New Late-Night Talk Show Cleared in All Top 50 Markets
Sinclair Broadcasting, LIN Television Stations, Belo Corp., Cox Enterprises and Media General Are Latest to Sign On
LOS ANGELES – August 9, 2012 – CBS Television Distribution has sold the new Arsenio Hall late-night syndicated talk show to stations in more than 85 percent of the country, it was announced today by Joe DiSalvo, President of Sales at CTD.
The strip is now sold in all of the top 50 markets. In addition to the Tribune Broadcasting, CBS Television and Local TV stations that initially signed on, stations from Sinclair Broadcasting, LIN Television Stations, Belo Corp., Cox Enterprises, Media General, Post-Newsweek Stations, Newport Television, Raycom Media and The Grant Group have also picked up the show.
“From the day we announced our deal with Arsenio Hall, the response from stations has been overwhelming,” DiSalvo said. “Most have given the show prime real estate as the lead out from their local late newscasts. They recognize the potential to have the next breakout hit in late night.”
The Arsenio Hall show will debut in Fall 2013, with Tribune partnering in the production of the show and providing the anchor station group with its 17 stations, including the top three markets.
“Tribune’s investment in Arsenio reflects our belief in the success of the show, and we are thrilled our broadcast peers are equally excited,” said Sean Compton, President of Programming and Entertainment, Tribune Broadcasting. “This momentum is a testament to Arsenio’s timeless talent and his loyal fan base, and we are looking forward to his highly anticipated return to late night.”
Hall, who recently won the latest edition of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice,” is best known for hosting the Emmy Award-winning “The Arsenio Hall Show,” a late-night syndicated talk show produced by Paramount Domestic Television (now CTD), which ran from 1989 to 1994. The show’s place in pop culture history was cemented in June 1992 when then-presidential candidate Bill Clinton appeared on the show and played “Heartbreak Hotel” on the saxophone.
The new show will be produced by CBS Television Distribution, in association with Arsenio Hall Communications Ltd. and Octagon Entertainment Productions. Arsenio Hall will be executive producer. John Ferriter will also be executive producer.
