Let me start off by saying most film fans don’t want The Hangover three, but money talks and The Hangover series has made a lot of it.
The Hangover was undoubtably the best Las Vegas buddy film of all time. It was a phenomenon. The film racked in a cool $277.3 million dollars states side, making it the highest grossing R-rated comedy in history. It pulled in another $190.1 million dollars overseas and a sequel was inevitable.
Everyone was back, the trailer looked halfway decent, but The Hangover 2 lost its magic. Still, the film made $254.4 million dollars domestically and a whopping $327 million dollars overseas. That put the Hanger over in elite company. The Hangover is a billion dollar franchise. So, part three makes sense, not in my eyes, because I thought part two sucked, but financially specking, it’s a no brainer. Warner Brothers had to pull the trigger here. Especailly if all the familiar faces were in and they are.
But what will they do next? The did Vegas in grand style, flopped in Thailand, so what other wild town do the writers have in mind? Tijuana! Hey, many good film series’ have had a dud. Lets hope Tijuana changes all of that. It’s a great location for the comic crew. I know I sounded bitter above, but I’m rooting for this third installment. Just thinking of the wolfpack in Mexico, makes me laugh.
In Todd Phillips third installment Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha will all be returning, as they try to rescue Zach Galifianakis from a mental hospital. Oh, and rumor is, Mike Tyson will be back as well. Filming for The Hangover 3 starts next month and Warner Brothers is working towards a May 24th, 2013 release.
