Movie Review

The Innkeepers is a modern day ghost story that takes place in The Yankee Peddler Inn (a real place in Connecticut). It follows the two innkeepers, Claire and Luke, as they try to find evidence of the paranormal in the inn, before it closes for good. Luke (Pat Healy) is a pretty likable character that most people could probably relate to. Unfortunately, I found his female counterpart, Claire (Sara Paxton), rather annoying. I felt like Paxton barely put any effort into her acting. Sometimes she was believable, but most of her screams were downright laughable.

‘The Innkeepers’ is separated into three main parts.

Part One: The Long Weekend

Part Two: Madeleine O’Malley

Part Three: A Final Guest

The first part was pretty slow, but not slow enough that I would turn it off. Part two is when it began to pick up speed and slowly go from a light atmosphere to a much darker one. Part three I have to say is pretty scary. I just about threw my laptop to the ground a couple of times. I can see why people wouldn’t like the ending. Basically because it was pretty terrible. It really stinks when a very suspenseful and scary movie leads to a quick and crappy ending. However, I wouldn’t judge the whole movie based on the ending.

The plot is pretty simple, but manages to keep the attention of the impatient American people. It may not be a movie to watch when you’re bored, but it would be great for a horror movie night with your friends. And it will lead to a great argument about the so-bad-I-want-to-cry ending. Basically what I’m saying is, don’t waste $20 on the Blu-Ray copy of the movie. If you’re gonna watch it with friends, rent it On-Demand or at heaven Redbox. Even thought it wasn’t the best, we must tip our imaginary hats to Mr. Ti West for another nightmare inducing, underpants soiling, run to your mommy for protection film.
