The Vampire Diaries 4×09 O Come, All Ye Faithful Synopsis:  A winter-theme party is held in Mystic Falls, but amidst the celebration chaos brews when Stefan and Caroline disagree with Tyler over his plans for Klaus and the hybrids. A WINTER WONDERLAND IN MYSTIC FALLS – As a Winter Wonderland-themed party fills the streets of Mystic Falls, Stefan and Caroline find themselves at odds with Tyler over his plans for Klaus and his hybrids. When Caroline proposes a solution to their problem, Hayley finds a dramatic way to make it clear that she is not on board. Later, Klaus makes a discovery that leads to chaos and violence. Meanwhile, Elena and Damon retreat to the Gilbert Lake House to help Jeremy conquer some dangerous inner demons with the help of Bonnie and Professor Shane, who reveals a piece of ancient history that leaves them all speechless. A pseudo-romantic scene opens The Vampire Diaries 4×09 episode as Elena looks lovingly at Damon in his bed in the Salvatore house.  She tells him that it’s not the sire thing, she really loves him.  But Damon wants to do the right thing by her, so they still have their clothes on.  He should have sent her packing.  He had promised Stefan.  Any further discussion is interrupted by a ring.  “Saved by the cell phone.”

Stefan talks to Klaus about the sire bond as Klaus if finishing a beautiful painting of a snow flake for the Winter Festival in Mystic Falls.  Stefan wants to know where the sword is that has the info on it to decode the tattoos on the Jeremy that will then show them where the location of the cure for vampirism is.  Klaus shows Stefan the sword to prove that he really has it.  This “cure” reminds me of Moonlight and Mick St. John’s quest for a cure so he could be human for his beloved Beth.

At the Winter Festival, Tyler and Caroline discuss Tyler’s plan to gang up and kill Klaus.  He has Haley’s help with this, but he doesn’t know that Haley is a double were-agent and is also working with Klaus against Tyler.  Tyler tells Caroline that Haley found a witch who can do the body switching spell and he’ll switch with Klaus and the hybrids will kill him as Klaus and bury it in concrete.  Caroline points out that Tyler doesn’t have to sacrifice himself by switching bodies again with Klaus and because Caroline put a knife in Klaus’ sister and she’s lying in a coffin, so all they have to do is switch the bodies of Klaus and his sister and then bury them both.  Two originals for the price of one.  Haley texts Shane the plan.

Caroline, whom Klaus adores, tells him she really likes his snowflake picture.  It evokes loneliness.  Klaus tells Stefan that loneliness is why they memorialize their dead.  In that briefest of moments while they literally hold their victim’s life in their hands, and then they rip it away and they’re left with nothing.  So gathering letters or writing names on a wall is a reminder that in the end we’re infinitely and utterly alone.  Feelings like this is why I love Klaus and sometimes feel sorry for him, because he’s so sensitive and yet so vicious.  If Caroline would only love him maybe he would be good all the time.

At the Gilbert Lake House, which Elena gave to Jeremy, Jeremy is chopping wood.  He’s really gotten buff since returning to Mystic Falls!  Jeremy is there with Professor Shane, who is going to help deprogram Jeremy, with Bonnie’s help, so that he won’t want to kill Elena.  Damon and Elena can’t enter the Lake House unless Jeremy invites them in.  I’m glad they kept this part of the vampire mythos.  After a few attempts, Shane is successful in his deprogramming and Jeremy and Elena hug.

Damon talks to Shane about the search for the cure.  Shane says he knows where the cure is and tells him the story of Silus, who found a cure for immortality.  Silus was a witch that loved a girl and wanted to be with her forever so he created an immortality spell.  Silus’ friend got jealous and killed the girl before Silus could make her immortal.  So he was cursed to an eternity without his one true love.  Silus found a spell to reverse the immortality, but before he had a chance to take it his former friend buries him underground, leaving him and the cure to rot.  If they dig up Silus, they have their cure.  Damon calls Stefan and tells him, so they don’t need the sword now.

As Bonnie, Jeremy, and Elena sort through Christmas stuff, Elena finds some mistletoe and goes outside to Damon.  Damon tells her he has to do the right thing so he’s releasing her.  This is what he wants.  This is what will make him happy.  She needs to leave and go home.

Tyler tells him Mom about the plan.  The hybrids are looking to him to help them as their Alpha.  She tells him that his father would be proud to see him as a leader just like he was.

Haley knocks Caroline out when Caroline finds out that Haley is telling Klaus Tyler’s plan.  April, Miss Mystic Falls, finds her and thinks she’s dead.  She’s startled when Caroline suddenly is standing beside her.  She compels April to forget.  But April has Jeremy’s vervain bracelet and can’t be compelled.

Since Klaus knows that 12 of the hybrids are planning on ganging up on him, he goes to the clearing where they’re lying in wait and kills them all as “O Holy Night” plays.  This was a great scene!  Afterward, Klaus confronts Kim and wants to know where Tyler is.  When she tells him she doesn’t know, he kills her.  O bloody night!

Although Elena doesn’t understand, she decides to go home, but she kisses Damon and it’s obvious that she still loves him.

Back at the Salvatore house, Caroline tells Stefan that Damon and Elena have been more than friendly.  Stefan freaks out and overturns a table with a chess board on it.  He’s not a happy camper!

Tyler goes to the clearing and sees all the dead hybrids.  Since April wasn’t compelled because of the bracelet, she goes into the lair and opens the coffin of Klaus’ sister.  They don’t show what’s in there, but April gasps.

And the promised death occurs at the Winter Fest.  Tyler’s Mom begs Klaus not to hurt him.  He’s her son. He’s all she has.  Klaus tells her that she’s all that Tyler has, too.  “There’s a beautiful symmetry to that, don’t you think?” he asks her, as he grabs her head and holds it under water as “A Merry Little Christmas” plays while she drowns.
