G.I. Joe: Retaliation didn’t quite live up to it’s predecessor, but still earned $40.5 million dollars this weekend. In 2009, “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” made $54.7 million dollars in its opening weekend. It went on to make $301 million worldwide. ‘Retaliation’ stars Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, and Bruce Willis, none of whom are strangers to box office success. Just this year, Johnson’s “Snitch” made $13.2 M, Tatum’s “Side Effects” made $9.7 M, and Willis’ “A Good Day to Die Hard” made $24.8 M, each in their respective opening weekends.





#2. The CroodsThe Croods Poster

DreamWork’s animated film, “The Croods” had an impressive 2nd weekend, taking in another $26.7 million dollars, a little more than half of what it made last week. It is on it’s way to becoming one of the most successful animated movies distributed by 20th Century Fox. They have two more scheduled for this year: “Epic” on May 24th and “Turbo” on July 17th. ‘Croods’ has received generally positive reviews, and currently has a fresh rating of 68% (among critics) and 85% (among audience) on Rotten Tomatoes.








#3. Tyler Perry’s TemptationTemptation Poster

Tyler Perry continues to be a total box office powerhouse with his latest drama, “Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor”, which made $21.6 million dollars this weekend. This is Perry’s ninth movie to reach that milestone in its opening weekend. The others are: “Madea’s Family Reunion”, “Why Did I Get Married?”, “Meet the Browns”, “Madea Goes to Jail, “I Can Do Bad All by Myself”, “Why Did I Get Married Too?”, “Madea’s Big Happy Family”, and “Madea’s Witness Protection”. Due out later this year is “A Madea Christmas”, which will most likely become the tenth to hit the $20 million milestone.
