Wes Andersons Moonrise Kingdom Animated Short

Written by Alexander Tucker   // 06/11/2012

Moonrise KingdomWes Anderson has moxie. We all now that. He markets his films in such unique way, it makes you wish he worked more often. Moonrise Kingdom was his first live action film in five years. Still his animated work is splendid. I thought Fantastic Mr. Fox was the best stop motion animation picture ever made. I though it underrated and completely under appreciated. So, I was excited to hear he made an animated short in relation to his new film Moonrise Kingdom. As I was watching it, I smiled through-out and that is what Wes Anderson does to me. His style is so charismatic, it makes me enjoy life just a little bit more.  It transports you into his corky mind and for a fleeting moment his world seems more real than the one outside my office window.

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, MOONRISE KINGDOM tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore — and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.
